Zodiac Checklists

Excluding emergency operation, the pre operation inspections should be performed daily before launching.

Before launching (should be performed in the workshop if possible)

  • Hull with no damage or holes
  • Drain Plugs, thru hulls, propellers/drives, transducers
  • Tubes inflated to 240mb (3.5psi) (very important)


After launching:

  • Tube fittings and attachments condition and adhesion
  • Valve lock open disengaged
  • Properly stowed and secure anchor
  • Fire extinguisher position and state
  • Fuel vents condition and operation

Pre-Operation Checklist

  • Drain water from fuel separator
  • Check engines oil level
  • No leaks, blocks or loose parts fuel system
  • No obstruction around propeller(s)
  • Material / Equipment needed for mission correctly and safely secured
  • Start engine
  • Ensure throttle works correctly
  • Test man over board switch on both engines
  • Ensure battery is sufficiently charged and switch is in the correct position
  • Check engines are cooling
  • Check operation of the GPS, VHF and NAV lights
  • Check all embedded fixings of instruments
  • Check bilge pump

When: For quick fitting, emergency operation or recovery navigation (e.g. lunch break)

  • Check if the boat is correctly inflated (240 mbar)
  • Check if there is sufficient fuel for mission
  • Place kill switch and ignition keys in place
  • Begin engine starting procedure
  • Switch VHF and GPS on
  • Leave mooring/pontoon when safe to do so

Engine Start Procedure

  • Batteries switched on
  • Boat launched engines down or with engine water set
  • Kill switch in place
  • Nobody near the propellers
  • Throttles on NEUTRAL position

Start Starboard Engine

  • Check the discharge and the parameters
  • Stop the engine using kill switch

Start Port Engine

  • Check the discharge and the parameters
  • Stop the engine using kill switch
Re start both engines (replace kill switch)

Post Operation Checklist

The following is the post operation check list that should be carried out after operation to ensure the boat is operational and ready for future use.

If boat kept out of the water:

  • Keep the batteries charged with the shore cable
  • Note down the engine running hours if possible
  • Cleaning the boat (Hand wash the tube with soapy water. Hull with high pressure water. Deck with low pressure water)
  • Clean the underwater hull once a week

Boat Remains in the Water

  • Check the battery charge status
  • Note down the engine running hours if possible
  • All hatches closed and secured
  • Proper shut down of electronics
  • Stop engines
  • Check condition of the propellers
  • Check the fast draining holes are not blocked
  • Spray the all parts of the boat using a mixture of white vinegar(30%)+ fresh water(70%) Rinse with fresh water
  • Flush the engines with fresh water after every use
  • Fill full the tank(s) of fuel
  • Run bilge pump in manual, leave set on AUTO
  • If the boat has not being used within 24 hours and you are unable to flush with fresh water.
  • Start the engines and run them for minimum 5 minutes.
  • It is mandatory to flush the engines with fresh water every 15 days
  • Place the protective covers on all the instruments and console
